Guest Requirements

  • Minimum Age: The primary guest (person on the reservation) must be at least 30 years of age at the time of check-in.
  • Families & Responsible Adult Groups Only: Woodland Chalet is reserved exclusively for families and responsible adult groups.
  • No Sororities, Fraternities, or Non-Chaperoned Groups: These groups are not permitted under any circumstances.
  • Maximum Occupancy: 20 guests, the figure on our Garrett County license, which we cannot raise. It counts everyone at the property, day visitors included.
  • Guest roster: Everyone staying overnight should be on the roster you give us when you sign the rental agreement. If your party changes, tell us and we will update it. Day visitors are welcome in reasonable numbers within the maximum but may not stay overnight.
  • Day visitors and the water amenities: Visitors may use the pool and the hot tubs only while the guest named on the reservation is present and supervising. That guest is responsible for everything their visitors do here.
  • Children under twelve must not be left in the property without an adult.
02

No Pets

Pets are not permitted at Woodland Chalet. This includes dogs, cats, and all other pets. This policy is strictly enforced to maintain the property for guests with allergies and to protect the furnishings.

Please note that there is no guarantee that the property is completely free of allergens. The house is pet-free and cleaned between every stay, but no home can be certified allergen-free.

If evidence of pets is found during or after your stay, we invoice a $500 deep-cleaning fee, payable within 14 days, per the rental agreement.

03

No Smoking Indoors

Smoking is not permitted anywhere indoors, in the house or the pool house. This includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes and vaping devices, and any controlled substance regardless of its status under the law of the state you came from.

Smoking outdoors is fine. Please smoke away from open doors, windows, and the hot tubs, and never discard butts on the ground or in the woods; the property sits on wooded acreage and wildfire risk is real. Fully extinguish butts and dispose of them with your trash. Smoking or drug-related paraphernalia must never be left on the property or in the woods.

If evidence of indoor smoking is found, we invoice a $500 deep-cleaning fee, payable within 14 days, per the rental agreement.

04

No Parties or Events

Woodland Chalet is a vacation home, not an event venue. No parties, events, receptions, or large gatherings are permitted. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Weddings, rehearsal dinners, or receptions
  • Birthday parties or celebrations with outside guests
  • Corporate events or team-building activities
  • Any gathering that exceeds the registered guest count

Family celebrations among registered guests (birthday dinners, holiday meals, etc.) are absolutely welcome. That's what Woodland Chalet is for! The distinction is between a private family gathering and an event with outside attendees.

05

Outdoor Security Cameras

For the security of the property and our guests, exterior security cameras operate at Woodland Chalet. By booking, you acknowledge their presence and consent to exterior recording. The cameras are:

  • Doorbell camera at the front entrance
  • Spotlight camera at the trash-can area, which helps deter bears and raccoons
  • Driveway camera overlooking the driveway
  • Two cameras facing the back woods, one on each side of the house

All cameras are mounted outside and record exterior areas only, and the doorbell camera may also capture audio at the front entrance. No camera can see the outdoor hot tubs, the indoor pool, or the inside of the home, and there are no cameras inside the house.

Please do not disable, cover, or reposition the cameras.

06

Quiet Hours

Please observe quiet hours from 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM. These are the hours the North Glade community rules and Garrett County both set, and they are ours too. During quiet hours:

  • Keep outdoor noise to a minimum because voices carry in the mountains
  • Move hot tub and outdoor conversations to a conversational volume
  • Keep music and entertainment at indoor-appropriate levels
  • Be mindful of neighboring properties in the North Glade community
07

Indoor Pool Rules

The private indoor heated pool (19'L × 10'W) is one of Woodland Chalet's best features. Please follow these rules for everyone's safety:

  • No glass in the pool area; use plastic or aluminum containers only
  • Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times
  • No diving because the pool is not deep enough
  • No running on the pool deck because surfaces may be slippery when wet
  • Shower before entering the pool when possible
  • No food in the pool water
  • Pool hours: The pool may be used at any time, but please be mindful of noise during quiet hours
  • Day visitors may use the pool only while the guest named on the reservation is present and supervising
  • Report any pool equipment issues immediately to woodlandchaletdcl@gmail.com

There is no lifeguard on duty. All swimming is at your own risk.

08

Hot Tub Rules

Woodland Chalet has 2 outdoor hot tubs located on the lower-level patio. Please observe the following:

  • No glass near the hot tubs. Broken glass is extremely dangerous in and around water
  • Children must be supervised by an adult at all times
  • Day visitors may use the hot tubs only while the guest named on the reservation is present and supervising
  • Limit soaking time. Do not stay in for extended periods; set reasonable time limits, and 10 minutes is the recommended one
  • Shower before entering to keep the water clean
  • Replace the cover after each use to maintain water temperature and keep debris out
  • Do not adjust the thermostat or chemical settings
  • Be mindful of noise during quiet hours, especially since the hot tubs are outdoors
  • Report any issues (unclear water, error messages, cover damage) to woodlandchaletdcl@gmail.com

There is no lifeguard on duty. All hot tub use is at your own risk. Guests with heart conditions, high blood pressure, or who are pregnant should consult a physician before using the hot tubs.

09

Fireplace Usage

Woodland Chalet has four outdoor stone fireplaces (two covered), a wood-fired pizza-oven fireplace, and two indoor gas fireplaces.

Firewood is not provided. Please bring your own or buy it locally for the outdoor fireplaces and the pizza oven. The two indoor fireplaces are gas and need nothing.

Indoor Gas Fireplaces

  • Operate using the wall switch or remote control (instructions in the guest app)
  • Do not place any objects on or near the fireplace
  • Keep the glass screen closed at all times
  • Turn off before leaving the room or going to sleep

Outdoor Wood-Burning Fire Features

  • Use only dry, seasoned firewood; do not burn trash, cardboard, or treated lumber
  • Keep the fire at a manageable size
  • Never leave an active fire unattended
  • Ensure the fire is fully extinguished before going inside or going to sleep
  • Keep children at a safe distance
  • Be aware of wind conditions and do not light fires during high winds
  • Dispose of ashes only after they have fully cooled (24+ hours)
10

Driveway & Parking

Driveway

The driveway is flat and paved, with easy access to the garage and parking areas.

Winter Driving Advisory

4WD/AWD vehicles or snow tires are strongly recommended from November through March. Mountain roads and the property driveway can be icy or snow-covered during winter months. Please plan accordingly and check weather conditions before your trip.

Parking Rules

  • Garage: Space for 1 vehicle
  • Driveway: Space for up to 8 vehicles total (including the garage)
  • Boat trailers: Permitted; 1 trailer counts as 1 parking space
  • No street parking. All vehicles must park in the driveway or garage. The North Glade community rules ask the same: keep vehicles in the driveway, never block streets or corners, and during snow conditions never park on the street or block a snowplow
  • Do not park on the lawn or in areas not designated for parking
  • Do not block the garage door or other vehicles
11

Dock Slip & Lake Access

Lake access and a dock slip are located approximately a 10-minute walk or short drive from the property. Please note:

  • Dock availability: The dock slip is available Memorial Day through Labor Day
  • Motorized vessels: one motorized boat or watercraft per property, and only in the assigned slip
  • No smoking or fireworks on the docks
  • Children must be supervised by an adult while on the docks, and children under 12 must never be on the docks without an adult
  • All boating must comply with Maryland boating regulations
  • Life jackets are required for children under 13 on all watercraft
  • The lake access area and dock are community-maintained; they are not private property of the homeowner
  • Use the dock and lake access at your own risk
  • The path to the lake is steep, so use caution and wear appropriate footwear
12

Garbage & Recycling

  • Bag all garbage and tie it securely. A few trash bags come in the welcome kit as a starter; bring your own for a full stay
  • Take garbage to the bear-proof containers at the end of the driveway. Pickup is once a week
  • Leave the containers where you found them, at the edge of the road. That is where they are emptied, and moving them is a community rule violation
  • Do not overstuff the containers, and close and latch the lids. Bears and raccoons get into anything left open, and into any trash left sitting outside the cans
  • Do not leave garbage bags on the deck or porch. Wildlife (bears and raccoons) are active in the area and will tear open bags left outside
  • Recycling bins are provided; please separate recyclables when possible
  • Do not dispose of grease, food waste, or large items down the garbage disposal
  • Upon check-out, please ensure all garbage has been removed from the property and placed in the containers
13

Kitchen & Appliances

Woodland Chalet has 2 fully equipped kitchens (main level and lower level). Please treat all appliances and cookware with care:

Beds are made and towels are out when you arrive. We provide bed linens, pillows and a blanket or bedspread on every bed, and one bath towel and one washcloth per guest. Linens for daybeds and sofa beds are provided but are not made up, so if you are using them, make them up on arrival. Bring your own beach towels for the lake, pool and hot tubs; house towels should not go outside.

The welcome kit is a starter, not a stock. We leave a small amount of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags and dish detergent so you are not caught short on arrival. It is a courtesy and it is not enough for a full stay, and we do not replenish it. Please plan to bring your own consumables, along with hand soap, laundry detergent, bath toiletries, hair dryers, beach towels for the lake, pool and hot tubs, firewood, and any specialty kitchen items you want.

  • Clean up after each meal and do not leave food out overnight
  • Use cutting boards when preparing food; do not cut directly on countertops
  • Hand-wash any specialty items (cast iron, non-stick pans) rather than using the dishwasher
  • Report any appliance malfunctions promptly to woodlandchaletdcl@gmail.com
  • The gas grill is available for your use, and propane is provided. Please turn off the gas valve after each use, and tell us if the tank runs low
14

15

General Property Care

  • Treat the property as you would your own home
  • Do not move furniture between levels or rooms
  • Do not remove any items from the property (books, games, decor, etc.)
  • Keep all doors and windows closed when the heating or air conditioning is running
  • Report any maintenance issues, damage, or safety concerns immediately to woodlandchaletdcl@gmail.com

16

Rule Violations

Violation of these house rules may result in:

  • Charges for cleaning, repairs, or damages
  • Termination of the stay without refund, for a serious or uncorrected violation (for a minor or first problem we will ordinarily ask you to put it right)
  • Prohibition from future bookings

We trust our guests to be respectful of the property and the community. The vast majority of our guests are wonderful. These rules exist to protect the experience for everyone.
