House Rules
By booking Woodland Chalet, you agree to the rules below. They keep the house great
for the next family — including yours, when you come back.
Guest Requirements
- Minimum Age: The primary guest (person on the reservation) must be
at least 30 years of age at the time of check-in. - Families & Responsible Adult Groups Only: Woodland Chalet is
reserved exclusively for families and responsible adult groups. - No Sororities, Fraternities, or Non-Chaperoned Groups: These groups
are not permitted under any circumstances. - Maximum Occupancy: 20 guests. The number of overnight guests must
not exceed the number stated on your reservation. - No Unregistered Guests: All overnight guests must be listed on the
reservation. Day visitors are allowed in reasonable numbers but may not stay overnight.
No Pets
Pets are not permitted at Woodland Chalet — this includes dogs, cats,
and all other animals. This policy is strictly enforced to maintain the property for guests
with allergies and to protect the furnishings. Service animals may be accommodated with
advance notice; please contact us to discuss.
If evidence of pets is found during or after your stay, a $500 cleaning surcharge
will be charged to the primary renter.
No Smoking
Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property — inside or outside.
This includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes, and vaping devices. This policy
applies to all indoor spaces, decks, patios, the pool house, and all outdoor areas.
If evidence of smoking is found, a $500 deep-cleaning surcharge will be charged
to the primary renter.
No Parties or Events
Woodland Chalet is a vacation home, not an event venue. No parties, events,
receptions, or large gatherings are permitted. This includes but is not limited to:
- Weddings, rehearsal dinners, or receptions
- Birthday parties or celebrations with outside guests
- Corporate events or team-building activities
- Any gathering that exceeds the registered guest count
Family celebrations among registered guests (birthday dinners, holiday meals, etc.)
are absolutely welcome — that’s what Woodland Chalet is for! The distinction
is between a private family gathering and an event with outside attendees.
Quiet Hours
Please observe quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. During quiet hours:
- Keep outdoor noise to a minimum — voices carry in the mountains
- Move hot tub and outdoor conversations to a conversational volume
- Keep music and entertainment at indoor-appropriate levels
- Be mindful of neighboring properties in the North Glade community
Indoor Pool Rules
The private indoor heated pool (19’L × 10’W) is one of Woodland
Chalet’s best features. Please follow these rules for everyone’s safety:
- No glass in the pool area — use plastic or aluminum containers only
- Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times
- No diving — the pool is not deep enough for diving
- No running on the pool deck — surfaces may be slippery when wet
- Shower before entering the pool when possible
- No food in the pool water
- Pool hours: The pool may be used at any time, but please be mindful
of noise during quiet hours - Report any pool equipment issues immediately to
woodlandchaletdcl@gmail.com
There is no lifeguard on duty. All swimming is at your own risk.
Hot Tub Rules
Woodland Chalet has 2 outdoor hot tubs located on the lower-level
patio. Please observe the following:
- No glass near the hot tubs — broken glass is extremely
dangerous in and around water - Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult at all times
- Limit soaking time to 15–20 minutes at a time to avoid
overheating - Shower before entering to keep the water clean
- Replace the cover after each use to maintain water temperature
and keep debris out - Do not adjust the thermostat or chemical settings
- Be mindful of noise during quiet hours, especially
since the hot tubs are outdoors - Report any issues (unclear water, error messages, cover damage) to
woodlandchaletdcl@gmail.com
There is no lifeguard on duty. All hot tub use is at your own risk. Guests with
heart conditions, high blood pressure, or who are pregnant should consult a physician
before using the hot tubs.
Fireplace Usage
Woodland Chalet has 4 fireplaces — 2 indoor gas fireplaces
and 2 outdoor wood-burning fireplaces.
Indoor Gas Fireplaces
- Operate using the wall switch or remote control (instructions in the guest portal)
- Do not place any objects on or near the fireplace
- Keep the glass screen closed at all times
- Turn off before leaving the room or going to sleep
Outdoor Wood-Burning Fireplaces
- Use only dry, seasoned firewood — do not burn trash, cardboard, or treated lumber
- Keep the fire at a manageable size
- Never leave an active fire unattended
- Ensure the fire is fully extinguished before going inside or going to sleep
- Keep children at a safe distance
- Be aware of wind conditions — do not light fires during high winds
- Dispose of ashes only after they have fully cooled (24+ hours)
Driveway & Parking
Steep Driveway Caution
Woodland Chalet has a steep driveway. Please exercise caution when
driving up and down, especially in wet or icy conditions. The driveway is paved but
can be challenging for some vehicles.
- Take the driveway slowly — both ascending and descending
- Avoid sudden braking on the decline
- The property may not be suitable for guests with significant mobility challenges
Winter Driving Advisory
4WD/AWD vehicles or snow tires are strongly recommended from November through
March. Mountain roads and the property driveway can be icy or snow-covered during
winter months. Please plan accordingly and check weather conditions before your trip.
Parking Rules
- Garage: Space for 1 vehicle
- Driveway: Space for up to 8 vehicles total (including the garage)
- Boat trailers: Permitted — 1 trailer counts as 1 parking space
- No street parking. All vehicles must park in the driveway or garage — this is a community (HOA) rule, not just ours
- Do not park on the lawn or in areas not designated for parking
- Do not block the garage door or other vehicles
Dock Slip & Lake Access
Lake access and a dock slip are located approximately a 10-minute walk or short drive
from the property. Please note:
- Dock availability: Dock slips are only guaranteed
Memorial Day through Labor Day - Motorized vessels: 1 motorized vessel is allowed at the dock slip
- All boating must comply with Maryland boating regulations
- Life jackets are required for children under 13 on all watercraft
- The lake access area and dock are community-maintained — they are not
private property of the homeowner - Use the dock and lake access at your own risk
- The path to the lake is steep — use caution and wear appropriate footwear
Garbage & Recycling
- Place all garbage in the provided trash bags and tie securely
- Take garbage to the designated disposal area (location noted in your guest portal)
- Do not leave garbage bags on the deck or porch — wildlife
(bears and raccoons) are active in the area and will tear open bags left outside - Recycling bins are provided — please separate recyclables when possible
- Do not dispose of grease, food waste, or large items down the garbage disposal
- Upon check-out, please ensure all garbage has been removed from the property
and placed in the designated area
Kitchen & Appliances
Woodland Chalet has 2 fully equipped kitchens (main level and lower level). Please treat
all appliances and cookware with care:
- Clean up after each meal — do not leave food out overnight
- Use cutting boards when preparing food — do not cut directly on countertops
- Hand-wash any specialty items (cast iron, non-stick pans) rather than using
the dishwasher - Report any appliance malfunctions promptly to
woodlandchaletdcl@gmail.com - The gas grills are available for your use — please turn off the gas
valve after each use
Check-Out Checklist
Please complete the following before your 10:00 AM check-out:
- Remove all personal belongings from all rooms, bathrooms, and outdoor areas
- Place all used towels in a pile on the bathroom floors
- Strip the beds and leave linens on the beds (do not remake beds)
- Load and start the dishwashers on both levels
