Deep Creek Lake is Maryland’s largest freshwater lake, ringed by the Allegheny Mountains. Everything below is within a 30-minute drive of the chalet—and your dock slip puts you on the water all summer.




Outdoor Recreation

Deep Creek Lake State Park

~5 miles • 10-minute drive

1,818 acres on the north shore: swimming beach, picnic areas, hiking trails, and the Discovery Center’s ranger programs.

Swallow Falls State Park

Muddy Creek Falls—Maryland’s tallest at 53 feet. The 1.25-mile Canyon Trail passes four waterfalls. Go in any season.

Herrington Manor State Park

~14 miles • 25-minute drive

Quieter: 53-acre lake, sandy beach, canoe rentals, 10 miles of trails. Winter grooming = best cross-country skiing in the mid-Atlantic.

Big Run State Park

~10 miles • 20-minute drive

Least crowded of the parks—fishing and forest hiking on the Savage River Reservoir.

New Germany State Park

~18 miles • 30-minute drive

A 13-acre forest lake with swimming and paddling; connects to Garrett State Forest ski trails in winter.

Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI)

The world’s only mountaintop whitewater course. Guided rafting and kayak clinics on a recirculating channel atop Wisp.

Summer at the Lake

June – August

Peak Deep Creek: kayak off your dock slip, float the lake, grill on the deck, and end the night in the hot tubs.

Fall in the Mountains

September – November

Winter on the Mountain

December – March

Ski Wisp by day; come home to a heated indoor pool and hot tubs by night. That combination is the winter pitch.

Spring Awakening

April – May

Waterfalls at full power, trout season open, trails empty. The quietest months at Deep Creek.
